Adam Blankenship is thinking about the future of Ultra-Mobile PC’s. He’s also thinking about the future of how his company could be affected by the use of a UMPC. I like his thinking. This is an example where people are thinking about how this device could be used for more than just an entertainment and personal consumer device.

I guess not, this seems to taking a whole lot of hype in the blogging world. One thing for sure, apple might come with something like a tablet, or a touch screen ipod, but not something like an UMPC –anyways, a lot of bloggers and website seem to speculate that apple might jump in….
When Microsoft first announced something called Origami, nobody quite knew what it was. In the following weeks the Origami project became more clear since Microsoft was releasing new information every two weeks or so. The end result was a national anticipation as well as fascination with the new type of computer that was even more portable than a laptop. Well it seems that now the whole world has gone crazy with the Origami concept and to not so much our surprise Apple is getting ready to release their own version of a UMPC which means Ultra Mobile Personal Computer, or as many call it Origami.
Origami Project has a cool post, Yes and it’s a experience of taking the UMPC on Bus…
Due to a combination of my love for the environment and my hatred for traffic, I attempt to take the bus to work from Seattle about 3 times a week. In the past, this transit time allowed me make a dent in my ever present pile of unread books, but now with the UMPC I saw so many more possibilities. Not only could I read, but I could listen to music, watch movies, catch up on news and emails…
This week I was lucky enough to test out my theory.
Due to the UMPC’s small size I did not even bother to pack it in my bag during the walk to the bus stop; I just carried it comfortably in my hand. Once I arrived at the stop I immediately brought the UMPC out of stand-by and tried to find a wireless network I could jump on…alas, no luck. Conveniently though, not only did the bus arrive moments later but it was one with wifi on board. The device found the signal right away and I jumped on IE to test it out. While excitedly bringing up websites, and checking my hotmail, I realized that I was at risk of missing my stop. So I focused on opening up several articles I could read during my bus transfer, which can take anywhere from 2-8 minutes with no wireless available [...]

Wow, So looks like apple has applied for a new patent for “activation of virtual keys of a touch screen keyboard“. Hope the guys at Dialkeys have patented their stuff, if not they’ll be siorry for it. Well they are not exactly the same but does have a lot of similarities.

There has been a lot of patents from apple lately for touch screen, they might be actively working on a Tablet and / or the rumored Video iPod. In any case things are interesting to see small handheld devices taking the main stage.
James (jkOnTheRun) says
- Apple just filed a patent for an on-screen keyboard similar to the DialKeys application that various UMPCs are using.
- Previous Apple patents included a virtual click-wheel and the supporting renderings indicated a slate-like device.
- Adaptation of Intel processors in Apple products opens the door for inclusion of a Celeron M, which we already know will power the Samsung Q1.
Obvious, enough there is something that Apple is upto. Hope to see some interesting products soon.
