According to sources, the prototype of the Yahoo / Intel UMPC is to be manufactured by the worlds largest contract laptop pc maker “Quanta“

The world’s largest contract laptop PC maker is branching out into ultramobile PCs (UMPCs), using a reference design from Intel Corp. and Internet software from Yahoo Inc.
Intel executives showed off the UMPC made by Quanta Computer Inc. at the Fall Intel Developer Forum in Taipei on Monday. The new device is a sign Intel and other backers of the UMPC design are gaining further support from hardware makers globally, which will increase the variety of devices available as well as their functions. More UMPC contenders should also help drive down prices through market competition.
The ultramobile PC is Quanta’s first. It will be the second Taiwanese company to enter the market, following the launch of Asustek Computer Inc.’s R2H last month. Quanta’s new UMPC runs Yahoo’s Go for ultramobiles, a joint software effort with Intel designed to deliver digital entertainment on devices that use Intel Viiv technology, including Go TV, and Yahoo photos, music, and other content. Intel did not say which specific functions the ultramobile PC version of Go includes.

Remember the SmartCaddie, yes the company is expanding its offering with the SmartCaddie EX (which is the ECS H70 or the Founder Mininote or the TabletKiosk 7200 series or the Lucoms pictured below)

So too is the 7in 800 x 480 LCD, the Bluetooth support, the built-in 802.11b/g wireless networking, and the integrated SD/MMC/MemoryStick card reader. The SmartCaddie also sports a 1.3 megapixel webcam, but runs Windows XP Tablet PC Edition.
The new model is 50g lighter than its predecessor. Its 2,400mAh battery provides a mere 2.5 hours’ continuous runtime.
PBJ is also offering a docking station for the UMPC. The add-on adds VGA, s-video, Gigabit Ethernet and two more USB 2.0 ports. The SmartCaddie EX goes on sale in Japan early December for around ¥139,800 ($1,167/£629/€933). It’s likely to be available to import soon after

It’s UMPCs turn, remember while a lot of car manufacturers boasted that they would have the ipod docking capability in theie models. Yes now its UMPC. Volkswagen seems to be the first in the game.

…Volkswagen engineers fashioned a form-fitting docking cradle inside the glovebox of the Passat. After docking, navigation screens and media are streamed from the computer to a 9″ touchscreen LCD headunit. Eric Jensen, Volkswagen’s Project Engineer for Connectivity and Computing gave us a detailed demonstration of the UMPC’s features. Most drivers will primarily use the UMPC for navigation. Using GPS and a WWAN Internet connection, the car can show real-time location and can give direct-to point of interest navigation. Navigation can be shown as a top-down overlay or on satellite imagery from the web. The car can also display traffic incident information, but Jensen admitted that navigation instruction and traffic cannot be shown at the same time. “In the future, we are looking to combine navigation and traffic, along with providing dynamic rerouting around accidents,” said Jensen. While navigation is important, media playback is where the UMPC really shines. The car can playback MP3s and videos in various formats to the two backseat monitors. For safety reasons, Volkswagen won’t allow videos to be played on the front headunit. Music can be streamed from the Internet or played off the UMPC’s drive. Drivers can also synchronize and playback podcasts. Jensen plans on adding a Slingbox feature to stream television from the driver’s home [...]
Looks very similar to the Vega. Though it seems to have a lot of features of an UMPC, this runs on Windows CE and not the tablet edition.
