Second generation of UMPCs

Here are some of the second generation of UMPCs. According to engadget — the Yahoo Go seems to be well designed done right, but there are many more that’s in the list.

The verdict? Vista on these new UMPCs coupled with the new Origami Experience UI is a big step in the right direction. The “Yahoo UMPC” reference design we saw at Intel’s IDF felt very solid in the hand, and features a well positioned thumbpad we found easy to use while holding the device two handed — a design which might have a chance of success if picked up by an OEM. Intel also has a few new reference designs under glass: a chubby, slim-screened slider and another perched in a fat brown media dock with integrated DVD and AV outs.

Origami Experience™ - Video & Screenshots

Few days back Microsoft announced the next version of touchpack named the “Origami Experience™“. The origami team has posted various screen shots and on10 has a video of the same. Sure they have made a lot of improvements, some of the tools are available only on Vista, may be that’s the reason its only for Vista.

Origami Experience™ is the newer, cooler, more functional version of the Program Launcher. Not only can you quickly open your programs, files, folders, or websites, but now you can now easily access your media content. Last but not least, we’ve listened to your feedback, and integrated all of the configuration tools directly into the application. No more extra applets to manage!

Okay, so enough intro. On to the good stuff [...]
