Amtek T770 - New UMPC on its way

You must have seen these early this year, looks like Amtek is making this close to launch. This was previously nick named the “vistagami”

Immediately you can see that they’ve added a directional pad to the frame switches and are obviously billing it as a Vista UMPC. Here are the specs (from an early marketing handout. Subject to change of course.)

* CPU: VIA C7M 1.2Ghz
* Chipset: VX700M
* Memory: 1 SODIM slot (max 1GB)
* Battery: 26W/hr
* HDD: 2.5″ 40GB
* Screen: 7″ 800×480
* Stereo speakers
* SD Card slot
* 1,3MP camera
* WiFi, BT2.0, 2xUSB2.0
* Cradle connector
* Weight 850gm
* Operating system. XP and Vista support.

Unfortunately there’s no word on whether the screen is a LED back-lit part which could enable 4 hours battery life. If not, its back down to sub 3 hours.

Medion gets delayed & Gigabyte wants to join

We first sighted this device as the “Arima” and later Medion announced it and this was supposed to be the first UMPC to ship with Vista and was scheduled for Jan 30. Steve has posted that it might get further delayed.

Gigabyte seems to be readying their UMPC dubbed the “Gigabyte U60″ which looks same as the Medion/Arima (if this is what the product will look like). They are planning to launch it at CeBIT 2007.

Dual screen phones, why not laptops?

That’s exactly what these guys did, This could as well be done for the UMPC, may be it’s just a matter of time. Imagine having a laptop that is dual screen, no no not that Windows SideShow or dual screen thing. A real notebook/laptop that has only screens yes, 2 screens that you can touch, draw and type on. Won’t this be cool.

…its only sold in Italy and Australia, but if u can get your hands into one, you’ll never take them off.  “Sketch pad, music score, graph paper: the Canova by is the redefinition of the tool for the creative mind. Dual display, dual touch-sensitive screens, an electronic pen and a dedicated hardware allowed us to bring this jewel to life.’

So what’s coming from Samsung?

question.jpgThoughtfix of UltraMobileGeek says he “got nice” with UMPC team at samsung and got them to answer a lot of questions.

There seems to be a lot of interesting questions and answers, but this was something we liked and would love if it gets done.

If there is one “dream feature” that you would like to have included in the current Q1 line but couldn’t, what is it?

8 hours of battery life on a single charge without having to use an extended battery or other type of power pack and without impacting system performance, size, etc.

HTC — Athena, Ameo and now the Advantage

Well looks like HTC Advantage Portable Office is the official name for the device, though this device is not a full featured PC and might not be defined or filed under the UMPC category it’s a good alternative.

HTC has launched a site dedicated to the device with lots of information.

Detailed spec after the jump… Continue reading ‘HTC — Athena, Ameo and now the Advantage’
