Fujitsu UMPC specs leaked

Looks like Fujitsu is planning on packing a good deal of stuff on to its UMPC. The design which resembles more of a Tablet PC than a UMPC (so far), looks compact and nice.

From the specs, the size function of the unit will be very close to Sony UX series. Hope the price is not the same!

  • Intel Sealey processor
  • 1GB memory
  • 40GB hard disk
  • SD reader
  • 2 cameras
  • 5.6-inch (1024 x 600) display
  • Two core battery and the optional four core battery that can last 7 hours.

No official word on it pricing or availability yet. The speculated availability is this summer.

Samsung Q1 Ultra to ship in a Month!

Engadget reports that Samsung is getting ready to ship the product by May. There has not been any official word on the pricing from samsung still, but it is believed to be around $1600 as Steve reported earlier.

…which means we have about a month to figure out if we’re willing to sacrifice the slickness of the onscreen keyboard foisted upon us by 1st generation UMPCs with the actual convenience of being able to type. While that added width might look a tad frumpy, what’s clear is that the specs and connectivity here are enough to melt the hardest of hearts…

McCaslin VS Menlow

When Intel announced the all new UMPC Platform 2007 — it was promising. Unless you put things in perspective it’s not that obvious. Take a look at the picture below comparing the 2008(Menlow) and 2007 (McCaslin) prototypes respectively.

Intel which has been working very closely with Microsoft to come up with the UMPC / Origami from the beginning is also showing interest in Linux based devices called the “MID” (Mobile Internet Device). this move is also to get the price much lower that the prevailing. So how is the Menlow device so compact? this picture will answer that.

Looks like Intel is really focused on taking their share in the market. One thing that still remains a questions is “Why is AMD not taking showing any interest in this area at all?” — We are all aware that VIA has taken much interest in this platform and has been actively involved in this from the start even posing some challenges to Intel.

No more details are known at this time, but the device looks cool and handy. Steve is on it and sure to have more updates sooner.

Looks like they are showing other UMPCs coming this summer including the “Menlow” — Intel’s prototype for 2008 (shown below)
