Asus R2H, Now in Australia

Asus R2H is now available in Australia (of course this has to be from Hugo)

Not only has Australia officially announced the release of the ASUS R2H Ultra Mobile PC, and the R1F Convertible Tablet, via Tegatech Australia, but the specs look pretty good too.

Given the maturity of the IT market in Australia and New Zealand it comes as no surprise that ASUS has held nothing back. The package Downunder includes all the usual International specifications but also the Bluetooth Keyboard and an External DVD RW. Interestingly it is one hundred dollars cheaper than the TabletKiosk i7210 so it will be interesting to see how this affects overall UMPC takeup.

Oh the price on this baby is at Australian $2199 which is US ~$1700.[via Uber Tablet]

What crap. Aussie consumers get shafted again. Do what I did - I got mine from mobileplanet in the US. $1500 express shipped. Works a treat. It seems they are charging us an extra $700 for a bluetooth keybaord and an extrenal DVD, whoch you can buy separately for less than $100 if you look in the right places :)

It has an International warranty, so I dont give a toss if Asus here wont support it - I’ll send it back under its US warranty.

Agreed. I was excited to buy one of these after reading up on US-centric sites. Its a niche product, but it fills the exact niche I am in. After seeing the price though I wont be buying from au.

I really think that theres a feedback cycle here, where products are released at higher prices in au, and products that attract “educated people / early adopters” who are likely to compare prices, realise they are being shafted, buy elsewhere and kill the market.

Seen these for $1000. Adding our Goods & Services Tax, shipping and import duty adds up to around $1300. $2100 is ridiculous, its an insult. That $1300 figure includes shipping, duties and sales tax in the US, then individual shipping to another country, another round of sales tax and duties here - and its still 2/3rds the price.

    Drives me insane.

    Ah… crap… I mean $1000 USD = $1300 AUD. au Tax = $1500 AUD
