Asus T83 — More details emerge

Looking at the importance that UMPC has gained in CeBIT, it would have been real fun to be there. Engadget has posted more details and pictures of the new Asus UMPC which was released in CeBIT.

Looks like the Asus T83 is not really a rugged as it was announced to be. The device features a

  • 7-inch 800 x 480 touchscreen display
  • XP Tablet running on a 1GHz Via C7-M processor
  • 512MB of RAM (expandable to 2GB)
  • at least a 30GB disk
  • GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi
  • camera
  • 950 grams
  • fully tactile QWERTY and
  • up to 6 hours off battery.

the T83 is expected to go global in Q3 for anywhere between $899 and $999. With the significant increase in the battery life and keeping the price still below a grand seems like a good choice.

    This always makes me ask:

Why is a Fujitsu P1610 so freaking expensive? Let’s just say that the 1GB model of this Asus T83 costs $1300. That’s ~$950 less than a P1610 with 1GB.

@ Jeff, Wish they were cheaper, but here is the issue. The Fujitsu sports a much higher speed processor, a little bigger & better screen. But as you know those HDTV’s were like more a grand for a mere 30″ and now they are like a $400 (in less than 2 years) So we’ll have things soon.
