HTC X7500 unboxing & first impression

The HTC X7500 (aka Advantage, Athena and the Ameo) is out and guys at “On the Go Solutions” has done the unpacking and posted the images and you can pre-order too at $1499. Looks like engadget also got their hands on the device and have posted their views on the device.

Initially when we heard about the Magnetic Keyboard we were really thrilled and thought it would be a nice add on to UMPCs as well, but engadget does not feel that way though.

… and damn is this thing ready to rumble. The keyboard (which we just weren’t that fond of) snaps into place from a good inch away, and feels more like an industrial magnet than something you’d find on a consumer device. The VGA screen is fantastically large and bright, and played back full-res video without a hiccup. It even has an idle mode with a couple mini-widgets and an email ticker when the keyboard is magnetically latched onto the body to protect the screen

HTC’s almost UMPC gets a price in UK

Remember the HTC Athena, then the Ameo and later the Advantage, yes looks like T-Mobile like the Ameo better than the last heard Advantage branding. Reg Hardware reports the device is ready to be launched and priced at a mere £120 (~US $235), of course this is with the right plan. This is a sweet deal.

… that’s not bad for a 3G UMTS/HSDPA machine with a QWERTY keyboard; 5in, 640 x 480, 65,536-colour screen; 8GB hard drive; 128MB of memory; Bluetooth 2.0; 802.11b/g Wi-Fi; three-megapixel camera; and an SDHC-compatible memory card slot. It runs Windows Mobile 5 …

Digital Cube’s iStation G43

A few months back we covered a product by the same company named the “S43″ (check it out) which seemed more like the Vega since it was powered by Windows CE. Today at CeBIT they have launched the G series named the “iStation G43″ which they claim to be the smallest UMPC.

You might have noticed some peek of this device, but this time engadget has some good pictures of the device. The problem seems to be that they have kept the same specs as before and loaded up a new operating system.

  • 4.3-inch, 800 x 480 touch-screen display
  • runs an AMD Geode LX800/900 running at 500MHz

With this spec not sure if it will meet the expectations of a UMPC, We’ve seen devices with 1Ghz that seem to be slacking behind in performance. No word on availability yet.

Dual screen phones, why not laptops?

That’s exactly what these guys did, This could as well be done for the UMPC, may be it’s just a matter of time. Imagine having a laptop that is dual screen, no no not that Windows SideShow or dual screen thing. A real notebook/laptop that has only screens yes, 2 screens that you can touch, draw and type on. Won’t this be cool.
