We’ve seen prototypes of Fujitsu for a while (here, here, here and here) but this time its for real. They are coming after the announcement of the Ultra Mobile Platform 2007 from Intel at IDF.

No more details are known at this time, but the device looks cool and handy. Steve is on it and sure to have more updates sooner.
Looks like they are showing other UMPCs coming this summer including the “Menlow” — Intel’s prototype for 2008 (shown below)

The much talked about “McCaslin” is the all new Ultra Mobile Platform 2007. Intel launched the new platform for UMPCs today at IDF, Beijing.

More Surprising news is that, the new line of manufacturers for this platform would be Aigo, Samsung, Asus, HTC, Fujitsu & Haier. HTC Shift prototype devices were powered by VIA, but the production unit will be using the all new Ultra Mobile Platform from Intel.

Intel offers two new processors as part of the Intel Ultra Mobile Platform 2007. Based on low-power Intel architecture technology and optimized for use in ultra-mobile devices, they are paired with the new Intel® 945GU Express Chipset and Intel® I/O Controller Hub (ICH7).

It’s a great news, If you’ve been following the UMPCs you sure know him. He has been an evangelist for the Tablet PC and UMPCs.
Today Hugo Ortega & GottaBeMobile announced that they are adding their first international member to their team — “Hugo”. Sure enough we’ll see more vidoes and and InkShows from them.

As the second generation of UMPCs are getting ready, this might be the first of the breed to start shipping. OQO announced their Model 2 in January at CES. Those who have pre-ordered the device, it will start shipping with Windows XP and for those who ordered it with Vista — you have to wait until sometime in April. Oh BTW have seen this scream if you drop it.
