Remember the Averatec AHI, the one that looks like the Sony UX but better (price & size wise) UMPC Portal spotted the German site with the AHI with the text that translates to “We ‘re working on new products”. The US Website does not seem to have any updates for the past couple of months atleast — still states “coming soon“

No word on the availability yet, but looks like it might hit the shelves within a few months.

This is great news, Averatec has been really silent with their AHI. (more details of Averac AHI). I just found that they have updated the site. The fun part they have a new section called the “Ultra Mobile Computing” which states

The innovation continues! See what’s coming up in Ultra Mobile Computing!
Sweet, Keep your eyes open, we’ll have more details coming very soon. Interesting to see how Averatec calls it - Ultra Mobile Computing and then UMPC Handhelds.

Remember the rumors about the upcoming Averatec UMPC about a month back? Engadget reports that the company is moving ahead with its plans and has made progress, Now Engadget does not state who gave them this information and neither has any links to any of the official announcements or press or anything like that. So we hope it was tip from either the readers or may be even from averatec (you know they have this new images of the device)

This sleek unit is supposed to have
- less than 2 pounds
- VoIP
- videoconferencing
- viewing live TV and VOD and
- apparently even gaming
- voice recognition systems (presumably for use with GPS guidance and the like)
- a docking station
- from the prototype we can see a camera
- and is set to be priced under $800 for Q4 2006
wish they make it the way it is presented here. via [engadget]
Some preliminary specs here!
- 1GHz Celeron M
- 30 or 40GB drive
- Up to 1GB RAM
- 1.3 megapixel webcam
- Bluetooth
- 802.11b/g
- WWAN optional
- 4-in-1 card reader
- External VGA
- Audio out and
- A 5-inch 800 x 480 display (so does it fall under the UMPC Category? well I don’t care, I Love it.)

We had Samsung, Asus and Founder, Then came the TabletKiosk and the SmartCaddie. Wish the talks about toshiba becomes true, but as we reported a few days back about the Avertec AHI, being a kind of UMPC, today engadget talks about it too.

Though this devidce does not fit in exact definition of an UMPC but well has all that you need. Wondering though why does all these gadget come in only 2 colors White and Black, be it iPod or TabletKiosk or this Avertec!

Well, not officially but looks like it. ULTRA MOBILE PCs TIPS just posted about an article on I4U about the Avertec AHI. Now the original news site is in French and here is the translated Version.

Looks like avertec just created the AHI to compete with others like samsung and asus. But as the configuration it’s the same thing as any other UMPC. The only thing that seems to be different is the Screen size.
- Powered by INTEL Celeron ULV
- 512 MB of memroy
- 30 GB Storage Capacity
- 18.6 X 9.0 X 3.3 cm - 730g
- Wow 6 hours of battery life
- Touch Screen - 5″
- Runs Windows XP - what happened to the Tablet OS?
- Optional GPS and 3G add-ons
- Wifi, 2 USB 2.0 , Ethernet , Modem
- Built-in sliding keyboard.
- looks like it has a camera too

So for the pricing at 499 euros (~US $600) for the basic one and with all add-ons the so called luxury model would be 899 euros (~US $1090) available this Christmas. Now that’s an attractive price.
