Averatec getting ready with its AHI

UPDATE: Jerry over at Origami Project Forums has posted that the Device will be available only in July - August Time Frame. More deets here

Remember the Averatec AHI, the one that looks like the Sony UX but better (price & size wise) UMPC Portal spotted the German site with the AHI with the text that translates to “We ‘re working on new products”. The US Website does not seem to have any updates for the past couple of months atleast — still states “coming soon

No word on the availability yet, but looks like it might hit the shelves within a few months.

Samsung Q2 Q1 Ultra — dozens of upgrades

When Samsung launched their Q1 UMPC, personally I did not like the design, look and feel of it. This has changed with the Q2.

The design of the product looks very promising. Here are some of the improvements over the previous design

  • Built in QWERTY keyboard without the sliding or opening of anything.
  • HSDPA & WiBRO support
  • They claim it’s around 1.5 lbs which is great & less than 1 inch.
  • A standard battery that lasts for 4 hrs
  • 6 hrs of battery life with the extended battery
  • A built in camera
  • and more accessories

Flipstart Hands on & Gallery

UPDATE:
Engadget has posted some hands on first look and a bunch of pictures
check it out
and James over at jkOnTheRun has posted a detailed video of the First look at the device — Check it out

Guys at Gizmodo got their hands on a FlipStart and posted dozens of photos of the device. Also this which makes the FlipStart look really big.

In it, you can see just how super small it is (5.9 x 4.5 x 1.6 inches, weighing at a little less than two pounds), how the keyboard works, and how that 1024 x 600 display looks. You won’t be able to see the 1.1 GHz Pentium M, the 512MB of RAM, the 30GB hard drive, or the 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, so you’ll have to take our word on that.

FlipStart gets a start

Remember the FlipStart, Crave is reporting about the full review of the FlipStart E1001S by PC Mag (we were not able to get to the page mentioned).

The E-1001S flips open to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard and a 5.6-inch screen with a 1024×600 resolution. With a Pentium M CPU, a 30GB hard drive, and only 512MB of RAM, it’s probably not going to be your main notebook, but for basic Web-surfing and e-mailing, we’d be willing to give it a shot. Other cool extras include a secondary display on the lid for checking e-mail while the lid is closed, an EVDO antenna, and both a touchpad and pointing stick.

Vulcan was started by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, so the company has a serious technology pedigree. There’s no release date yet, but PC Mag says the E-1001S will go for $1,999.

$2000 seems way too much for this device. Not sure if you agree with us.

You must have seen these early this year, looks like Amtek is making this close to launch. This was previously nick named the “vistagami”

Immediately you can see that they’ve added a directional pad to the frame switches and are obviously billing it as a Vista UMPC. Here are the specs (from an early marketing handout. Subject to change of course.)

* CPU: VIA C7M 1.2Ghz
* Chipset: VX700M
* Memory: 1 SODIM slot (max 1GB)
* Battery: 26W/hr
* HDD: 2.5″ 40GB
* Screen: 7″ 800×480
* Stereo speakers
* SD Card slot
* 1,3MP camera
* WiFi, BT2.0, 2xUSB2.0
* Cradle connector
* Weight 850gm
* Operating system. XP and Vista support.

Unfortunately there’s no word on whether the screen is a LED back-lit part which could enable 4 hours battery life. If not, its back down to sub 3 hours.
