Streets & Trips 2007 - UMPC friendly

Looks like the Microsoft is ready with its next version of the Streets & Trips. This from what we read will also address the UMPCs (Full Screen Mode), Cool.

street_trips.jpgIn addition to updated data, the new version breaks new ground for trip planning and navigation software by tightly integrating online local search results with mapping and navigation capabilities. It also significantly enhances the navigation feature set with several improvements such as a “full screen mode to enhance the driving experience, a better performing and sleeker hardware puck (featuring the latest SIRFIII technology), improvements to rerouting and additional navigation improvements such as drive times and reverse routing. Lastly, we made the first significant investments in tailoring the application for ultra-mobile PCs, so that as that platform begins to emerge in CY07 we have a winning offering to attach to UMPC sales.

Product Features:

  • Customizable trip-planning options allow you to plan stops, scenic detours, and fuel stops, add multiple destinations, and quickly alter your route.
  • Avoid potential delays with free, up-to-date road construction information from the Web.
  • Navigation mode makes it easier than ever to know where you are. Estimated drive time ensures you always know how far you are from your destination.
  • Keyword search helps you quickly find listings near your location by entering words such as “coffeeâ€? or “restaurant.â€?
  • Find current business listings when you’re online, then take them with you!

Asus R2H Mapping Software

http://www.lkpartner.cz/leve/one-way.jpgNow, We know that the R2H ships with the GPS thingy, The problem now is to find the best software to use along with it. The Lucky guy(ZhuBaJie) who seems to be the only owner of the R2H is already doing his experiments on it and he needs some suggestions. (It’s funny that there are no directions on how to use the GPS!)

Looks like the R2H ships with Microsoft Autoroute 2006. Calling all the UMPC geeks out there what other programs could be used and which one would be the best considering this device a a sole GPS unit in a car?

    Firmware Update for Q1

Kevin over at jkOnTheRun reports that Samsung has updated the firmware.

First up is the Samsung Battery Manager application. On my Q1, if I click Help, About in the Battery Manager application, Sammy shows me v.2.1.1.8. If you look on the Samsung Q1 download page, however, you see that v.2.2.0.0 is available. Realizing that I should have been a Hollywood Stuntman, I took the risk of downloading and installing the 2.2.0.0 version and sure enough, it’s upgraded on my Q1. Unfortunately typical of many companies that provide software, there’s no listing of features or fixes in this version. (And this is acceptable because…..?)
