Though TabletKiosk has been selling UMPCs for the past year or so, this seems to be a new product that’s built for some sort of rugged usage.

As TabletKiosk’s first Ultra-Mobile PC (UMPC) designed to endure physical stress and withstand harsher environmental conditions than a standard computer, the eo TufTab™ v7112XT is the ideal solution for field work, warehousing, mobile point of sale, data collection and other jobs in which a computer endure excess handling. Its rugged construction compliments the 7″ UMPC form factor when used for accessing touch screen applications, taking handwritten notes, entering data and communicating over a wireless network.

Bjorn over at Ultra Mobile Life has some more details of the Asus T83. Here is a short video of the device too
Specification of the device
- VIA C7-M processor running at 1.0 GHz
- VIA VX700 chipset
- 512 MB of RAM
- 40GB hard drive.
- GPS unit
- webcam above the screen
- Bluetooth, 802.11b/g, & LAN
…What’s most impressive about this new design, is that it’s fanless. ASUS has got all the thermals right and coupled it with a much cooler CPU resulting in a much quieter UMPC. Additionally, they are getting five hours of battery life on this device, much better than the 3 hours touted for Samsung’s Q1 Ultra. The measurements for the T83 come in at 222mm x 156mm x 29mm and it weighs in at ~950 grams…

Looking at the importance that UMPC has gained in CeBIT, it would have been real fun to be there. Engadget has posted more details and pictures of the new Asus UMPC which was released in CeBIT.

Looks like the Asus T83 is not really a rugged as it was announced to be. The device features a
- 7-inch 800 x 480 touchscreen display
- XP Tablet running on a 1GHz Via C7-M processor
- 512MB of RAM (expandable to 2GB)
- at least a 30GB disk
- GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi
- camera
- 950 grams
- fully tactile QWERTY and
- up to 6 hours off battery.
the T83 is expected to go global in Q3 for anywhere between $899 and $999. With the significant increase in the battery life and keeping the price still below a grand seems like a good choice.

When Samsung launched their Q1 UMPC, personally I did not like the design, look and feel of it. This has changed with the Q2.
The design of the product looks very promising. Here are some of the improvements over the previous design
- Built in QWERTY keyboard without the sliding or opening of anything.
- HSDPA & WiBRO support
- They claim it’s around 1.5 lbs which is great & less than 1 inch.
- A standard battery that lasts for 4 hrs
- 6 hrs of battery life with the extended battery
- A built in camera
- and more accessories
