Imagine a UMPC that is 40% smaller in size with better and longer battery life. Yep! VIA seems to be making that possible with its next generation of its chipsets. We had some update on VX700 about 2 months back, now Asus had made an offcial announcement on this.
Via said it has released the Via VX700 chipset which is for Ultra Mobile PCs. According to Via, the VX700 will allow a reduction of UPMC sizes by 40 per cent. The chipset is coupled with Via’s C7-M and gives longer battery life - the chipset itself measures 35mm by 35mm.
Via will release the chipset to mass production this quarter. It includes Unichrome graphics, DDR-2 support, Via “Vinyl” audio, support for S-ATA II and P-ATA hard drives, six USB 2.0 ports and four PCI slots.
