[...] Remember the Dell UMPC mockup that one of our readers sent us way back, later Ultranauts had a posting on the Dell entering the UMPC market on the April !st (yes April 1st), Now Ultranauts seems to have some insider information on Dell entering in to the UMPC arena. Bottom-line? A Dell UMPC is officially on the drawing board and slated for release within the next 12 months. Not many specifics, but the designers are looking to differentiate from the pack with a design that is “indicative of the one shown in the promotional videos where the screen ‘turns out’ to reveal a keyboard. Dell is apparently working to create a device that “appears as small as possible. I don’t know what “appears as small as possible actually means, but I would imagine it has to do with a small screen bezels and very rounded corners/edges… [...]

You would think that the 'artist' would have taken a few minutes to clean up the graphics & change the buttons so it was not an obvious fake.

The mockup is an Axim X50/51 body chopped up & moved about to create the case. Not a very convincing con.

[...] Remember the Dell UMPC mock up that we had on our site… (click here if you have not seen it yet). Now Ultranauts has posted… Dell has thrown its hat into the Origami ring and sends word that they will have 2 UMPC models coming out by “early summer.â€? Dubbed the Dellie and the Dellie XPS, the devices will be priced at $599 and $1299, respectively. “Our new Dellie line continues Dell’s long heritage of taking new technologies and making them mainstream. We believe our successes with our MP3 player line and our Axiom PDA line speak volumes about our ability to deliver UMPCs that really bring the best of both of those worlds together. This is a device for the masses.â€? [...]

[...] Oh it’s fortunate that the founder decided (if they did) to market this only in Asia, if they were to push it to the other markets i doubt if they make it with such prices, it has to come down. When we had a poll abou the fair price of the UMPC more than 90% voted it shuold fall in the $500 to $700 category (not because microsoft said it, but thats the FAIR price). We only wish DELL would come in. What do you guys think? [...]
