Nokia N800 gets the iPhone keyboard

A few folks have put in some quality time to come up with a keyboard for N800 that looks and works exactly like the iPhone. The good thing is they have done it and made it available for the rest of us. Take a look at the demo video

Any takers to clone it for the UMPCs and touch enabled devices???

Intel launches Moblin.org — Mobile & Internet Project

As the dates are nearing for MID devices to show up on shelves, Intel has launched Moblin.org which will post details of all the linux versions that can be used for the MIDs.

mobilinux.jpg

Moblin.org hosts the Mobile & Internet Linux* Project which is an umbrella, open source project focused on the development of Linux for Intel-based devices. To this purpose, moblin.org will host various projects that will provide key elements of community-based projects such as Ubuntu’s Mobile and Embedded Edition*, and Red Flag’s MIDINUX*, targeted for such devices. We also intend to be an incubator for prototyping new ideas and projects targeting these types of devices, such as the Intel-based Mobile Internet Device (MID) and various consumer electronic devices.

UMPC Rumors all around!

Well there seems to be two major rumors which hints on new UMPC players.

  • Engadget shows us a new device might-be successor of the N800 with the full QWERTY keyboard, which potentially could be an UMPC or a MID. The details are really slim but the images says more.
  • On the other hand there are hints that DELL (finally) might enter the UMPC market — now take this with a grain of salt, because its not confirmed but looks like a possibility. — Details here
  • Looks like HTC is getting its next concept ready, though the Shift is not yet out, they are working on the next generation named the “omni” which looks more slim and might compete with the MID markets

Patriot UMPC/MID — Deets pop up

This is no New device, we’ve seen them before but as “Aigo UMPC”. The product was first showcased at the Intel Developer Conference. More and more products seem to be coming up, though it was Microsoft what initiated the Viral Campaign, Linux seems to be favoring this form factor. Engadget has got hold of the Patriot UMPC loaded with Windows Vista.

aigo_umpc.jpg

…Recently we’ve seen this same design on the Amtek U560, but this version bears the Aigo badge proudly. Of course, since this (the company’s first foray into the UMPC market) is based on the 2007 archetype, the Patriot has some of those bulky, Hummer-esque design qualities that don’t hold up to the newer, sleeker, and smaller Menlow-based models (which Intel is heading towards for 2008), but under that jumbo exterior there’s an 800MHz, Vista-ready heart of gold. Honestly, we do question the choice of putting function buttons smack-dab in the center of QWERTY keyboard, but hey — no one is perfect — judge for yourself in Engadget China’s hands on gallery…
